For every source of images that you set, PCafe creates a file in ..\Program Files\PhotoCafe\ImageLists   Even though this file has a *.pcl extension, it is just a text file.   It sounds like PCafe is having a hard time with a particular file or folder.  Normally it should just ignore files it has problems with, but if you crate the error in the pcl file that may be a source of the problem.

Open the created *.pcl file and see if anything looks odd to you.  You can post it here if you wish and I'll look at it.

When I click ok after selecting the folder I wish the program to use to find images, I get a "run-time error '76' path not found". I can get to the settings box, but when the screen saver attampts to come on, it creates something in the taskbar, but then I never see the saver (not even the loading screen).

Can you help?

I tried deleting those image lists, but it didn't help.
Using the Prefs file Andy posted didn't work either (thanks for the offer, too, e.r.photo)

Thanks for the ideas, anyways.  I guess I'll look at some other screensavers.

Hi,

Sorry about the slow reply, the forum didn't send me the post notice for some reason. :-(

Unfortunately PCafe requires some run time files that may or may not be on the running machine.  Also, there are a number of installation reasons why it would not work.

Thanks for asking.

Also, you can manually delete all of the image lists as well by going to the Program Files\PhotoCafe\Imagelists folder and deleting all of the contents there.  (don't delete the Imagelists folder tho, please).

There is a prefs file you can download at:
http://www.bigbeanbag.net/xfer/PCafe_Prefs.txt

Good luck

Hi Sawdust,

happy to send you a prefs file.

Would you like it here, or would you prefer to contact me off list?

Regards,

David

Unfortunately, I've never been able to access the configuration menu (I get the error descibed in my original post).

Maybe someone could post a complete, pre-made PCafe_Prefs file?  Maybe that'd jump start the program on my machine.

Otherwise, I guess there's just something odd about my computer that won't let the prgram run.  Cry  Thanks for the help, anyway.

Hi, Dave here,

I am new to Photocafe and trying to place a photocafe screensaver on a removable media (ie CD). Any ideas on how to do this??

Hard to say what is going on without knowledge of your system, but my guess is some of the default image lists are trying unsuccesfully to access the internet (the program has a few common Photo of the Day sites listed by default).  Go to the configuration screen and remove the internet image lists (the ones with the globe) by clicking on them and them clicking the trash can button that is lower down the screen.

You can also have the program create a proper preferences file by making some options choices on the configuration screen and pressing Apply/Ok.

Best of luck, let me know how it goes.

Andy

Sorry for the long time between replies, but I was out-of-town for a while.

I went to Program Files\PhotoCafe, but there was no file called PCafe_Prefs.txt.  I created a new file with that name in Notepad containing only the line "DEBUGLOG" to see if that worked.

This time, running PhotoCafe itself produces different results, but it still isn't working.  Now, after the white PhotoCafe splash screen, a black screen appears with the words "UNREGISTERED" and "pres F1 for a list of commands".  After a short delay, a message appears in the upper-left corner of the screen about looking for image lists, but then it stops and the program hangs there.  The only way I found to get out of it was by ending the program using Windows' task manager.

Trying to access the Settings produces the same result as before.

Unfortunately, no debug_log files were created.
